Volleyball Recap: Rio Rancho Comes Up Short

After flying high against Los Lunas last Saturday, Rio Rancho came back down to earth. The Rams lost 3-0 to the La Cueva Bears on Thursday. The Rams were not able to make up for their defeat to the Bears from their previous meeting back in November of 2023.

Paige Spolar paced Rio Rancho's offense, picking up six kills. Spolar got some help from Addicyn Bishop and her 13 assists.

La Cueva was led to victory by Sofia Flores-Gallegos and Embrey Eisele. Flores-Gallegos had 11 digs, while Eisele had 11 digs and two aces. Eisele is crushing it when it comes to digs: she's had at least 11 every time she's taken the court this season. Audrianna Barela also deserves some recognition as she posted her first assist of the season.

Rio Rancho now has a losing record of 2-3. As for La Cueva, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 8-1.

Coming up, Rio Rancho will be taking part in a tournament against Los Lunas at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The Rams are facing the Tigers at the right time seeing as the Tigers are stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for La Cueva, they will take on Albuquerque at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
