St. John's Christian Academy falls despite strong effort from Brock Ray

The St. John's Christian Academy Cavaliers fought the good fight in their overtime contest against the Cathedral Academy Generals on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Generals by a score of 73-71. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.

When it comes to explaining why St. John's Christian Academy lost, one person who can't be blamed is Brock Ray. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 21 points and 15 rebounds. Ray hasn't dropped below 19 points for four straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Tradd Law, who scored 16 points.

Cathedral Academy got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Bryce Ward out in front who scored 28 points along with five assists and three steals. Ward continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Ajani Gresham was another key contributor, scoring 21 points along with five rebounds.

St. John's Christian Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 8-15. As for Cathedral Academy, their win was their seventh straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 23-8.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. St. John's Christian Academy will take on Calhoun Academy at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. St. John's Christian Academy has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 203 points over their last three contests. As for Cathedral Academy, they will look to defend their home court on Monday against Porter-Gaud at 7:00 p.m. One thing working in Porter-Gaud's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last four matches.
