Softball Recap: Yorba Linda Has No Trouble Against Valley Christian

With a playoff win on the line, Yorba Linda rose to the challenge on Wednesday. They put the hurt on the Valley Christian Defenders with a sharp 14-3 win. The Mustangs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine contests by six runs or more this season.

Samantha Cook made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched seven innings while giving up three earned runs off eight hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with two runs.

In other batting news, Claire Gress was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Saige Block, who went 3-for-5 with three runs and one RBI.

Yorba Linda hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least four batters in four consecutive matchups.

Yorba Linda has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a massive bump to their 16-12 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.8 runs over those games. As for Valley Christian, their defeat dropped their record down to 18-7-1.

Looking ahead, Yorba Linda will look to defend their home field on Saturday against Marina at 3:15 p.m. The Vikings will roll in looking for their sixth straight win, something the Mustangs surely won't give up without a fight. Valley Christian does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
