Baseball Recap: Park City Takes Down Ranked Dixie

On Saturday, Park City faced Dixie in a battle between two of the state's top teams. The Park City Miners walked away with a 6-1 victory over the Dixie Flyers. This was payback for the Miners, who suffered a 13-3 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Colton Schmidt made a splash no matter where he played. He pitched seven innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits. He is becoming a predictor of Park City's success: when he allows at most one earned run the team is undefeated (and 2-3 when he doesn't). Schmidt was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one RBI. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in hits.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Alex Brannigan, who scored a run while going 2-for-3. Those two hits gave him a new career-high. Joey Breza also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

Park City is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games. Dixie's loss dropped their record down to 5-3.

Park City will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Juan Diego Catholic at 3:30 p.m. on March 25th. As for Dixie, they have already played their next game, a 12-2 win against East on the 15th.
