Basketball Game Preview: Maud Cardinals vs. Big Sandy Wildcats

A feisty cat fight will be fought when the Maud Cardinals challenge the Big Sandy Wildcats at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday... Maud is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last five games.

While Maud didn't have the best season last year (they finished 13-19), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They walked away with a 51-39 win over Sulphur Bluff on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Big Sandy was beaten by Chapel Hill 75-45 on Saturday. While losing is never fun, the Wildcats can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 990th, while the Bulldogs are ranked 166th).

Maud will need focus on slowing down Key'Marion Williams, one of several Big Sandy players who made an impact when they last played. He posted 16 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ka'Myrie Fountain, who scored 11 points.

Maud has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven contests, which provided a nice bump to their 10-2 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 53.7 points per game. As for Big Sandy, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-5.

Maud skirted past Big Sandy 38-36 when the teams last played back in December of 2022. Does Maud have another victory up their sleeve, or will Big Sandy turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
