Basketball Recap: Speedway Comes Up Short

Speedway was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their seventh straight loss. They were dealt an 87-48 defeat at the hands of the Indian Creek Braves. The Sparkplugs were down 66-35 at the end of the third quarter, and things only got worse from there.

Speedway's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Camden Bennett, who went 6-for-8 en route to 13 points. Bennett is also on a roll when it comes to shooting accuracy, as he's posted one of at least 60% in the last four games he's played. Kyle Merlie also deserves some recognition as he posted his first assist of the season.

Indian Creek's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Landon Sichting led the charge by dropping a double-double with 18 points and 12 boards. The dominant performance also gave Sichting a new career-high in blocks (three). Another player making a difference was Adam Crouch, who dropped a double-double with 15 points and 11 assists.

Speedway's defeat dropped their record down to 2-15. As for Indian Creek, their record now sits at 9-10.

Speedway didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 63-45 loss against Greenwood Christian Academy on the 15th. As for Indian Creek, they will challenge Sullivan at 1:30 p.m. on February 22nd.
