Centennial dropped their record down to 17-12 on Thursday, which also ended the team's five-game streak of wins. They took an 8-5 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Palo Verde Panthers. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Panthers this season, with their most recent defeat being a 8-3 loss two weeks ago.
Sydnee Smith was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That home run was her first of the season.
As for Palo Verde, the win keeps they at an undefeated 21-0. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 10.2 runs this season.
On Palo Verde's side, Ava Koenig made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out nine batters over five innings while giving up three earned runs off four hits. Koenig has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with one double and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Taylor Johns, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April. Kayleen Enriquez was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run.
