Baseball Game Preview: Newark Reds vs. Dansville Mustangs

The Newark Reds are taking a road trip to face off against the Dansville Mustangs at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.

Newark came out on top against Penn Yan Academy on Thursday thanks in part to the team's impressive six-run fifth inning. The Reds were the clear victors by a 12-2 margin over the Mustangs.

Newark got a massive performance out of Michael McGavisk, who got on base in all five of his plate appearances with four stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. McGavisk is becoming a predictor of the Reds' success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 3-7 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Jayce Baker, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases and three runs.

Newark was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .444. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Dansville). Everything went their way against Haverling on Friday as they made off with a 14-7 win. Considering the Mustangs have won six matches by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Newark has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a massive bump to their 7-7 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.5 runs over those games. As for Dansville, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 6-4.

Newark suffered a grim 7-1 defeat to Dansville when the teams last played on Wednesday. Can the Reds avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
