Football Recap: Village Christian Comes Up Short + How To Watch

Village Christian had lost five straight on the road, but on Friday they dropped down to 5-5 to make it six. They were beaten by the Aquinas Falcons 42-12. Having soared to a lofty 62 points in the game before, the Crusaders couldn't push the score so high this time.

Cooper Jackson threw for 107 yards on nine of 22 attempts. Preston Mathis was his top target, picking up 101 receiving yards and one touchdown. On the ground, Mattao Tarca rushed for 38 yards.

As for Aquinas, the victory (which was their ninth in a row) raised their record to 9-1. Those wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 10.2 points on average over those games.

Aquinas' victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Champ Brown, who rushed for 114 yards and a pair of TDs on only 12 carries. Charlie Reyes was another key signal caller, throwing for 110 yards and two touchdowns on only nine passes.

Village Christian and Aquinas are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. The Crusaders will take on Oak Park at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Aquinas, they will challenge Dana Hills at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Falcons will need to watch out since the Dolphins have now posted at least 31 points in their last eight games.
