Baseball Game Preview: Homer Pelicans vs. Parkway Panthers

The Homer Pelicans will head out to square off against the Parkway Panthers at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Homer has four straight victories, Parkway has seven straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

While Homer didn't have the best season last year (they finished 8-11), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They were the clear victor by a 27-10 margin over Lincoln Prep on Saturday. Considering the Pelicans have won four matchups by more than nine runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.

Clay Isgitt spent all five innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered seven earned (and three unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up 12 Ks.

On the hitting side, Paxton Prince was a standout: he scored four runs and stole a base while going 4-for-5. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 2.2 runs per game. Another player making a difference was Ray Castro, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs, five RBI, and one triple.

Homer was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .548. The last time their batting average was this high was back in March of 2024.

Fans were treated to a battle of the Panthers on Saturday. Parkway lost 6-0 to Brusly. The contest marked the first time this year in which Parkway was not able to get on the board.

Homer's win bumped their record up to 5-1. As for Parkway, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-7.
