League recap: Stokes overpowering for West Lauderdale in past week

4A Region 5 league recap: 3/8/13

Will Stokes was the best pitcher in 4A Region 5 this week, leading West Lauderdale. He racked up ten strike outs this week.

First place in the standings of the league is up for grabs this week, as Newton County sits tied atop the standings with Quitman.

Although Northeast Jones surrendered only nine walks this week, the lowest number in the league over that span, the Knights are still tops for the season with just 14 walks over 33 innings this year.

Four RBIs over the past week allowed the Cougars' Peyton Cain to boost his season output so far to five, tops in the league.

West Lauderdale's Stokes led the league in strikeouts this week with ten. He's first in the league with 16 total strikeouts.



Kyle Colston struck out 11 in the Panthers' 4-1 win over Union on February 26. Over his seven innings pitched he allowed one run on one hit.

Will Brand threw a shutout as he led Newton County to victory over the Tigers, 6-0, on Tuesday. He struck out seven, allowing three hits.
