Gates County hasn't had much luck against Martin County recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Red Barons will take on the Gators at 7:00 p.m. Gates County has given up an average of 7.8 runs per game this season, but Wednesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Having struggled with three defeats in a row, Gates County turned things around against Hobgood Charter on Wednesday. They put the hurt on the Raiders with a sharp 20-12 win. The Red Barons might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 11 matchups by eight runs or more this season.
Hailey Bauer spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and three unearned) runs on nine hits.

At the plate, Zoey Nowell was a standout: she went 3-for-5 with three stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Kamryn Riddick was another key player, getting on base in four of her six plate appearances with three stolen bases, four runs, and two RBI.
Meanwhile, Martin County has relied on a stalwart pitchers averaging 2.9 runs allowed per game, but that average took a hit on Tuesday. They came up short against Perquimans, falling 13-3. The loss continues a trend for the Gators in their meetings with the Pirates: they've now lost four in a row.
Martin County saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Erica Sturgill, who went 1-for-2 with one home run and three RBI.
Martin County's defeat dropped their record down to 18-3. As for Gates County, their victory bumped their record up to 11-9.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Wednesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Gates County has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.6 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Martin County struggles in that department as they've been averaging 4.1 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Gates County might still be hurting after the 18-1 loss they got from Martin County in their previous matchup back in March. Can the Red Barons avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
