Baseball Recap: Newton County Academy's Losing Streak Snapped at Four Games

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Sylva Bay Academy, Newton County Academy was happy to have turned things around on Friday. They put the hurt on the Grace Christian Eagles with a sharp 21-1 win. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Generals as it put an end to their four-game losing streak.

Cooper Thrash and Taylor Burt were a major factor no matter where they played. Throwing, Thrash tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Burt tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Thrash has become a key player for Newton County Academy: the team is 3-1 when he allows at most one hit, but 1-6 otherwise. At the plate, Thrash scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3, while Burt got on base in all four of his plate appearances. That stolen base marked the first that Thrash snagged this season.

In other batting news, Ty Thrash was a standout: he went a perfect 3-for-3 with four runs, two stolen bases, and four RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March of 2024. Cooper Savell was another key player, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with four runs, two stolen bases, and five RBI.

Newton County Academy's win bumped their record up to 4-7. As for Grace Christian, they are on a seven-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-4.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Newton County Academy will welcome Laurel Christian at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Grace Christian, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Calhoun Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Calhoun Academy has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed seven runs per game on average), something Grace Christian will no doubt try to take advantage of.
