Softball Recap: Erie-Prophetstown Drops Highest Score of Season Against Newman Central Catholic

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Erie-Prophetstown). Everything went their way against the Newman Central Catholic Comets on Monday as they made off with a 19-4 victory. The Panthers have beaten the Comets the last seven times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Comets has come to flipping the script.

Erie-Prophetstown let Lilly Swatos and Jaylynn Hamilton run wild. Swatos went 1-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs, while Hamilton scored three runs while getting on base in all six of her plate appearances. The dominant performance also gave Hamilton a new career-high in RBI (two). Another player making a difference was Hannah Ryan, who scored two runs while getting on base in three of her six plate appearances.

They weren't the only one making solid contact: Erie-Prophetstown kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 20 hits. They are 3-1 when they post 11 or more hits.

Erie-Prophetstown's win was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 6-6. As for Newman Central Catholic, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost five of their last six matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-8 record this season.

Newman Central Catholic will challenge Bureau Valley at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Erie-Prophetstown will be paying especially close attention to the Comets' contest: after the Comets faces off against the Storm, they'll take on Erie-Prophetstown again at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
