1A Conference 6 recap October 1, 2013
Union Academy scaled the state rankings by moving to 307 from 333 this week, the biggest jump in 1A Conference 6. The Cardinals climbed the ranks as a result of beating South Stanly 35-0.
Albemarle extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating South Davidson, 68-0. The victory was the fourth in a row for the team.
Union Academy's dynamic duo of Stephen Wilkinson and Maliq Pando proved to be unstoppable against the Rowdy Rebel Bulls, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Wilkinson threw for 200 yards and 4 touchdowns and Pando had 86 yards receiving. Logan Pautz helped Union Academy's passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 67 yards.
Leading the league in both passing and receiving yards, Albemarle's Bryan Blanton and Timmie White have proven to be a lethal combination. Blanton has thrown for 853 yards this season, while White, a 5-foot-10 receiver, has 14 catches for 457 yards. West Montgomery's Caleb Drake leads the league in rushing yards with 563.
As it stands, the Warriors are in first, while Brad Hoover's team is in fourth.
The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when West Montgomery takes on the Cardinals. Nick Eddins' team has allowed 60 points this season, while Union Academy has given up 63.
The Wildcats fell to Seth Smith's team 68-0 last week, the largest margin of any game.
