Baseball Game Preview: Manteca Buffaloes vs. Oakdale Mustangs

For the second straight game, Manteca will face off against Oakdale. Manteca is taking a road trip to challenge Oakdale at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Manteca 2.8, Oakdale 3.5) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Manteca had been on a three-game streak of scoring at least ten runs, but Oakdale put an end to it on Monday. Manteca fell just short of Oakdale by a score of 1-0. The match marked the first time this year in which the Buffaloes were not able to get on the board.

For Oakdale's part, not much got past Landon Schutte, who gave up just a hit and racked up ten Ks to keep Manteca off the board. Schutte has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.

The victory (which was Oakdale's fourth in a row) raised their record to 11-6. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.5 runs on average over those games. As for Manteca, they moved to 14-4 with that defeat, which also ended their four-game winning streak.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Manteca has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Oakdale struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 8.5 strikeouts.
