Recap: Corning Cardinals vs. West Valley Eagles
Even though the West Valley Eagles scored an imposing 62 points on Friday, the Corning Cardinals still came out on top. Corning skirted past West Valley 65-62. The win made it back-to-back wins for Corning.
Jeff Mendros continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 32 points along with 5 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Roman Bennett, who scored 18 points along with 7 assists and 5 rebounds.
Several Eagles players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jordan Heacock, who scored 18 points along with 8 rebounds. Heacock scored a full 29% of West Valley's points, the second time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Weston Kibler was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with 5 rebounds.
Even though they lost, West Valley were working as a unit and finished the game with 13 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Corning only racked up 21.
Corning's victory bumped their record up to 3-4. As for West Valley, they now have a losing record at 3-4.
Corning's road trip will continue as they head out to face Redding Christian at 1:00 p.m. on December 9th. Redding Christian presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Corning in California (Redding Christian is ranked 246th, while Corning is ranked 900th). West Valley and Central Valley will face off at 2:30 p.m. on December 9th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Central Valley is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'.
