Preview: Herriman Mustangs vs. Pleasant Grove Vikings
Two dominant signal callers in Frederick Ta?ai and Carson Rasmussen are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. After each having a week off, The Herriman Mustangs and the Pleasant Grove Vikings will dust off their jerseys to take on one another at 6:00 p.m. on October 27th. Given that both teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this match.
Last Friday, Herriman faced Corner Canyon in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Herriman was the victim of a tough 45-24 loss at the hands of Corner Canyon. Herriman was down 45-17 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.
Despite their defeat, Herriman saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Ta?ai, who threw for 308 yards and two touchdowns while completing 76.9% of his passes, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground, was perhaps the best of all. Another player making a difference was Kaden Hansen, who picked up 131 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Pleasant Grove's game on Friday was all tied up 21-21 at the half, but sadly for them it didn't stay that way. They took a 35-28 hit to the loss column at the hands of Lehi. It was the first time this season that Pleasant Grove let down their fans at home.
The losing side was boosted by Tu'alau Wolfgramm, who rushed for 145 yards and two touchdowns on only nine carries. Wolfgramm's longest rush was for an incredible 76 yards. Tanner Blake was another key contributor, picking up 107 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Herriman has been struggling recently, as they've lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-5 record this season. As for Pleasant Grove, their loss dropped their record down to 8-2.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of October 27th' contest: Herriman has been on an offensive roll this season, having averaged 386.8 total yards per game. It's a different story for Pleasant Grove, though, as they've been averaging only 247.9 per game. Will Herriman be able to march up the field at their leisure again, or will Pleasant Grove flip the ?
Herriman strolled past Pleasant Grove in their previous meeting back in November of 2017 by a score of 21-3. The rematch might be a little tougher for Herriman since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
