Basketball Recap: Hoover Picks Up Fifth Straight Win at Home

There's no place like home for Hoover, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Tuesday. They enjoyed a cozy 64-47 win over the Nicholas County Grizzlies on Thursday. The Huskies have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Grizzlies, too.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Hoover to victory, but perhaps none more so than Donovan Brown, who posted 20 points. Brown is trending in the right direction considering he's improved his point production for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Dane Hatfield, who scored 20 points.

Nicholas County's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Maverick Smith, who had 11 points and seven boards. Smith continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Ira Mylott, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 11 rebounds.

Hoover's victory was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 8-1. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 59.4 points per game. As for Nicholas County, they have been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-6 record this season.

Hoover is taking a road trip to challenge Ripley at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Ripley will roll in looking for their eighth straight win, something Hoover surely won't give up without a fight. As for Nicholas County, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, an 81-71 victory against Summers County on the 25th.
