Preview: Captain Shreve Gators vs. Archbishop Rummel Raiders
The Captain Shreve Gators will face off against the Archbishop Rummel Raiders at TBD on Friday. Captain Shreve will be looking to extend their current eight-game winning streak.
Captain Shreve can now show off five landslide victories after their most recent contest two weeks ago. They took their match on the road with ease, bagging a 56-28 victory over Haughton. Given Captain Shreve's advantage in MaxPreps' Louisiana football rankings (they are ranked 36th, while Haughton is ranked 145th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Captain Shreve's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Jamarlon Otis, who rushed for 188 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 9.0 yards per carry, and Quortni Beaner, who rushed for 163 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 10.2 yards per carry. Beaner has been hot recently, having posted two or more rushing touchdowns the last five times he's played.
Meanwhile, two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Archbishop Rummel walked away with it. Everything went their way against Northwood on Friday as Archbishop Rummel made off with a 34-14 victory. The victory was a breath of fresh air for Archbishop Rummel as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.
Captain Shreve pushed their record up to 9-1 with that victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 0-10 Southwood and 2-8 Natchitoches Central (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 37.5% over those games). As for Archbishop Rummel, their win bumped their record up to 5-6.
