Baseball Recap: Columbine's Win on Saturday Extends Winning Streak to Four

Columbine waltzed into their game on Saturday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They put the hurt on the Lakewood Tigers with a sharp 9-1 victory. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 14-4 last Thursday.

Ian Alexander spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on three hits. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Columbine is 3-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 3-6 otherwise.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Matthew Kossik, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-3. He is becoming a predictor of Columbine's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 1-7 when he doesn't). Pryce Richie was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.

Columbine's win bumped their record up to 6-7. As for Lakewood, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-6 record this season.

Columbine will look to defend their home field on Saturday against Valor Christian at 11:00 a.m. As for Lakewood, they didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 5-4 victory against Dakota Ridge on the 12th.
