League recap: Beloit extends winning streak with victory over Phillipsburg

North Central AA recap October 22, 2013

Adding to the longest winning streak in North Central AA this week, Beloit beat Phillipsburg 48-27. This was the team's seventh consecutive win.

Russell fell to More Prep-Marian 49-0 last week, the largest margin of any game. Chase Prester was a bright spot for the Broncos, as he ran for 35 yards in the defeat.

Alex Baldwin was a key player and the best on defense this week as Russell fell to the Monarchs. The 5-foot-6 senior pulled down 1 interception.

Cody Schlesener put up the best numbers in passing as Southeast of Saline fell to Sacred Heart. He finished with a total of 5 completions for 66 yards and 1 touchdown. Schlesener's favorite target this week was Matthew Helvey, who caught 3 passes for 48 yards.

Southeast of Saline's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Trojans feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Schlesener has thrown for 818 yards and 11 touchdowns this season, while Helvey has 19 catches for 370 yards.

The Knights are in second place, while Ellsworth is in fifth place.

Beloit made the biggest leap in the national rankings this week, rising to 458 from 713. The advance stemmed from a 48-27 victory over the Panthers last week.
