Recap: El Dorado Wolverines vs. Mission Heights Prep Phantoms
Even though the Mission Heights Prep Phantoms scored an imposing 65 points on Thursday, the El Dorado Wolverines still came out on top. El Dorado narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past Mission Heights Prep 68-65. This was payback for El Dorado, who suffered a 81-80 defeat the last time these two teams met.
Leading El Dorado to victory were Mikai Phipps and Chris Zaragoza. Phipps scored 20 points along with four steals, while Zaragoza dropped a double-double on 17 points and ten steals. That makes it four consecutive games in which Phipps has scored at least 25% of El Dorado's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Michael Carbajal, who scored four points along with three steals.
El Dorado's victory bumped their record up to 4-2. As for Mission Heights Prep, their loss dropped their record down to 5-2.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. El Dorado will be home for the holidays to greet ASU Prep Poly at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Mission Heights Prep will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Alta Vista Charter at 5:00 p.m. on January 9, 2024. Alta Vista Charter will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Arizona Rankings (they are ranked 222nd, while Mission Heights Prep is ranked 109th).
