Baseball Game Preview: Canon City Tigers vs. Mesa Ridge Grizzlies

For the second straight game, Canon City will face off against Mesa Ridge. The Tigers will face off against the Grizzlies at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.

Canon City took a 13-run loss the last time they faced off against Mesa Ridge, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Tigers had just enough and edged out the Grizzlies 4-3. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Tigers.

Canon City got a great performance from John Vendetti as he struck out six batters over 5.1 innings while giving up three earned runs off seven hits. Vendetti has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Canon City let Peter Hershberger and Justin Loveless run wild. Hershberger scored a run and stole two bases while going 1-for-3, while Loveless went 2-for-3 with three RBI. Those two stolen bases gave Hershberger a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jake Bell, who went 2-for-3 with one double.

Mesa Ridge's defeat was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 5-9. As for Canon City, they now have a winning record of 7-6.
