Softball Recap: Waukesha South Comes Up Short

Waukesha South had lost five straight at home, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 3-8 to make it six. They fell 7-4 to the Kettle Moraine Lasers. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Blackshirts of the 3-1 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2024.

Alyson Staley was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last five games she's played. Shaylyn Helm-Lyon also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.

As for Kettle Moraine, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 7-6. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.7 runs over those games.

On Kettle Moraine's side, Natalia Tramonte made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits over seven innings pitched. The dominant performance also gave Tramonte a new career-high in strikeouts (five). She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one run and one double.

In other batting news, Briella Hack was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with two doubles and one run. Another player making a difference was Sydney Parsons, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Waukesha South and Kettle Moraine could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Wisconsin Rankings. The Blackshirts will challenge Muskego at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday with a big rank disadvantage (273 vs. 50). Meanwhile, Kettle Moraine (ranked 102nd) will meet Arrowhead (ranked 19th) at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
