Baseball Recap: Mabel-Canton Comes Up Short

The matchup between Mabel-Canton and Houston on Thursday hardly resembled the 3-0 effort from their previous meeting. The Cougars fell just short of the Hurricanes by a score of 11-10. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Hurricanes this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 3-0 back in March.

Kale Tollefsrud and Milton Hutchinson stepped up to the plate in a big way. Tollefsrud went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI, while Hutchinson went 1-for-2 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Tollefsrud is becoming a predictor of Mabel-Canton's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 2-1 (and 6-10 when he doesn't).

Mabel-Canton's defeat dropped their record down to 8-11. As for Houston, their record is now 7-10.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Mabel-Canton will face off against Rushford-Peterson at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Cougars are facing the Trojans at the right time seeing as the Trojans are stuck on a five-game losing streak. As for Houston, they will challenge Lyle/Pacelli at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Athletics will roll in looking for their eighth straight win, something the Hurricanes surely won't give up without a fight.
