Baseball Game Preview: Anchor Bay Tars vs. Grosse Pointe South Blue Devils

For the second straight game, Anchor Bay will face off against Grosse Pointe South. The Tars will be playing in front of their home fans against the Blue Devils at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Anchor Bay has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the contest with three straight defeats, while Grosse Pointe South will come in with four straight wins.

Anchor Bay fell victim to Grosse Pointe South and their airtight pitching crew on Tuesday. They took a 4-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Blue Devils. The game marked the first time this season in which the Tars were not able to get on the board.

For Grosse Pointe South's part, Drew Hess made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Hess has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two hits in five consecutive appearances. He was even better at the plate, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with three stolen bases and one RBI. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high.

In other pitching news, Grosse Pointe South got a great performance from Charlie Michelotti as he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over six innings pitched. Michelotti has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

Hess wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Trey Grabowski, who went 1-for-2 with one run. Steven Bethell also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

Grosse Pointe South hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in six consecutive matchups.

Grosse Pointe South's victory bumped their record up to 13-5. As for Anchor Bay, their loss dropped their record down to 5-7.
