Softball Recap: Jay County's Undefeated Season over After 11 Games

Jay County fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Woodlan on Saturday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Warriors by a score of 5-4. The Patriots were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Warriors apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in May of 2024.

Mallory Winner put in work while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out nine batters over 9.1 innings while giving up five earned runs off 11 hits. Winner was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one run and one RBI.

In other batting news, Jaelynn Lykins was cooking despite her team's loss, going 3-for-5 with one run and one double. She has been hot recently, having posted three or more hits the last three times she's played. Natalie May also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.

Having lost for the first time this season, Jay County fell to 10-1. As for Woodlan, the victory (which was their 15th in a row) raised their record to 16-1.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Jay County beat the Warriors by a score of 5-0 later that day.
