Basketball Recap: Antelope Takes Loss Despite Strong Performances from Quentin Mitchell and Malichai Brown

Antelope has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They were five points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 59-54 heartbreaker at the hands of the Destiny Christian Academy Lions. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Lions this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 76-50 back in January.

Antelope's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Malichai Brown, who posted 14 points and five rebounds, and Quentin Mitchell, who went 6-for-12 en route to 12 points and seven boards. Mitchell continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Zachery Caspillo was another key player, almost dropping a double-double with nine points and nine rebounds.

Destiny Christian Academy's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jaylen Valdez led the charge by going 7-for-14 to rack up 21 points. Valdez is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in each of the last six games he's played. Another player making a difference was Jephte Tambala, who dropped a double-double with 13 points and ten boards.

Antelope's defeat dropped their record down to 18-9. As for Destiny Christian Academy, they have been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 11 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-11 record this season.

Antelope has already played their next game, a 56-52 win against Kennedy on the 14th. As for Destiny Christian Academy, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 95-49 victory against McClatchy on the 14th.
