Volleyball Recap: Amherst's Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Saturday

It was a good run, but Amherst unfortunately witnessed the end of their nine-match winning streak on Saturday. They fell just short of the Grand Island Central Catholic Crusaders by a score of 2-1. The Broncos were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Crusaders earlier this season, when they won 2-0.

Despite the defeat, Amherst had strong showings from Kenna Hagan, who had 15 assists and five digs, and Breckyn Layne Veskerna, who had 12 digs and one assist. Hagan is on a roll when it comes to assists, as she's now posted 13 or more in each of the last three games she's played.

Grand Island Central Catholic can attribute much of their success to Charlotte Corey, who had 20 digs. That's the most digs Corey has posted since back in August. Izzy Mueller also deserves some recognition as she posted her first assist of the season.

Amherst's loss dropped their record down to 12-4. As for Grand Island Central Catholic, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-6 record this season.

Amherst didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 2-0 victory against St. Cecilia on the 27th. As for Grand Island Central Catholic, they have also already played their next matchup, a 2-0 defeat against Minden on the 27th.
