Recap: Limon Badgers vs. Merino Rams
After flying high against the Colorado Springs School Kodiaks on Friday, the Limon Badgers came back down to earth. Limon suffered a tough 61-37 defeat at the hands of Merino on Saturday. While losing is never fun, Limon can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 93rd, while Merino is ranked fifth).
Despite the loss, Limon still got an impressive performance from Jentri Marx, who almost dropped a double-double on 16 points and nine rebounds. Marx hasn't dropped below three steals for 13 straight games.
Merino's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Kya Piel led the charge by dropping a double-double on 19 points and 11 assists. Piel is crushing the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Brooklyn Sutter, who scored 17 points along with two steals.
Limon's loss ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 10-4. As for Merino, the victory for they keeps them at an undefeated 13-0.
Limon and Wray will face off at 4:00 p.m. on February 2nd without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Hopefully Limon focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 29 on Saturday. As for Merino, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against Akron at 4:00 p.m. Merino is coming into the contest with 12 straight wins at home, so Akron is out to stop a team with plenty of momentum.
