Football Game Preview: Farrell Steelers vs. Mercyhurst Prep Lakers

The Farrell Steelers will look to defend their home field on Saturday against the Mercyhurst Prep Lakers at 7:00 p.m. The timing is sure in Farrell's favor as the team sits on 11 straight wins at home (dating back to last season) while Mercyhurst Prep has been banged up by three consecutive losses on the road.

On Saturday, everything came up roses for Farrell against Eisenhower as the squad secured a 58-7 win. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Steelers' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania football rankings (they are ranked 58th, while the Knights are ranked 423rd).

Farrell got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Juelz Johnson out in front who rushed for 195 yards and three scores on only eight carries. Johnson's longest rush was for an incredible 91 yards. Another big playmaker for Farrell was Jadon King-Vincent, who returned a punt for a touchdown.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Farrell was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 363 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 244 rushing yards in four consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Mercyhurst Prep didn't have too much breathing room in their matchup against Seneca on Saturday, but they still walked away with a 21-17 win. The victory continues a trend for the Lakers in their matchups with the Bobcats: they've now won five in a row.

Farrell's record is now 8-2. As for Mercyhurst Prep, they now have a winning record of 6-5.

Farrell beat Mercyhurst Prep 16-9 in their previous matchup back in November of 2023. Will the Steelers repeat their success, or do the Lakers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
