Basketball Recap: Alchesay Takes Loss Despite Strong Performances from Texas James and Micah Yazzie

Alchesay has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They took a 72-60 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Show Low Cougars on Friday. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Tuesday (56), the Falcons still had to take the loss.

Micah Yazzie and Texas James certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. Yazzie almost dropped a double-double on 19 points and nine rebounds, while James went 8 of 17 on his way to 18 points and five boards. Yazzie continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Max Antonio, who posted nine points and five rebounds.

Show Low got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Hadlee Dazen out in front who dropped a double-double on 28 points and 15 boards. Another player making a difference was Mason Bigos, who went 5 for 9 en route to 18 points and six assists.

Alchesay's loss dropped their record down to 19-9. As for Show Low, they moved to 10-16 with that win, which also ended their three-game losing streak.

Alchesay will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Holbrook at 3:30 p.m. Holbrook will roll in looking for their fifth straight victory, something Alchesay surely won't give up without a fight. Show Low has already played their next matchup (against Snowflake), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
