Preview: Gaston Christian Eagles vs. Davidson Day Patriots
The Gaston Christian Eagles will be staying on the road on Thursday to face off against the Davidson Day Patriots at 7:30 p.m. on December 21st. Gaston Christian knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past seven matches -- so hopefully Davidson Day likes a good challenge.
Gaston Christian pushed their score all the way to 78 on Saturday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell just short of Weddington by a score of 81-78. Despite running the score up even higher than they did on Friday (65), Gaston Christian still had to take the loss.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Cameron Newman, who scored 21 points along with eight assists and five rebounds. The matchup was his seventh in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Makoi Mabor Marier, who dropped a double-double on 24 points and 12 rebounds.
Meanwhile, after a string of three wins, Davidson Day's good fortune finally ran out on Saturday. They received a tough blow as they fell 63-49 to Covenant Day. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Davidson Day came into the contest with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 12th, while Covenant Day is ranked 110th).
Gaston Christian's record now sits at 8-6. As for Davidson Day, their defeat ended a five-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 7-3.
