Basketball Recap: Southern Maryland Christian Academy Finds Home Court Redemption Against La Plata

There's no place like home for Southern Maryland Christian Academy, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Wednesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 47-45 victory over the La Plata Warriors on Saturday. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 75-50 back in December of 2024.

La Plata's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Zackyra Washington, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 22 boards. Washington has been hot, having posted eight or more rebounds the last seven times she's played. Another player making a difference was Aniyah Sisco, who posted 18 points and six boards.

The win got Southern Maryland Christian Academy back to even at 5-5. As for La Plata, their loss was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-11.

Southern Maryland Christian Academy didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 58-57 defeat against Fredericksburg Christian on the 23rd. La Plata has also already played their next matchup, a 78-28 loss against North Point on the 22nd.
