Baseball Recap: Broadalbin-Perth Takes a Loss

Broadalbin-Perth extended their losing streak to three on Monday, dropping their season record down to 4-4 in the process. They came up short against the Scotia-Glenville Tartans, falling 11-3. The Patriots were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Tartans apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in May of 2024.

Broadalbin-Perth saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Blake Shields, who went 2-for-4 with one run.

As for Scotia-Glenville, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 5-3. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

On Scotia-Glenville's side, Tyler Gray made a splash no matter where he played. He struck out six batters over 6.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off seven hits (and only one walk). Gray has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-5 with three RBI, two doubles, and one stolen base.

In other batting news, Nicholas Pedone was a standout: he went 2-for-4 with four stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. Scotia-Glenville is 4-1 when Pedone posts two or more stolen bases, but 1-2 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Steven Nicklas, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with three stolen bases, one run, and one double.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Scotia-Glenville beat Broadalbin-Perth by a score of 7-3 on Wednesday.
