Game recap: Defense comes up big in Vista Murrieta high school football team's win over Great Oak

Vista Murrieta (Murrieta, Calif.) received a huge boost from its defense against Great Oak (Temecula, Calif.), as the unit scored 14 in defeating Great Oak (Temecula, Calif.), 65-14.

After taking the lead on a touchdown run by Su'a Cravens in the first quarter, the Broncos led 37-14 at the half.

Vista Murrieta expanded its lead to 44 points entering the fourth quarter. VM scored three times in the third, including once on a touchdown run by Stewart Riding.

Cravens and Riding ran for a bunch of touchdowns for the Wolfpack. Cravens scored two touchdowns on the ground and Riding added two as well.

The Murrieta school's standout player in the win was Cravens. The senior caught one touchdown. A member of the Top 25 Safeties, Cravens has now scored nine touchdowns on the season.



The Broncos had given up an average of 13.0 points prior to the contest. The 14 points that Great Oak ended with were well below its average of 28.8 coming into the game.

Vista Murrieta also won the meeting between the two teams last season, 45-24.

In a Southwestern game next week Vista Murrieta (7-0) takes on Murrieta Valley, and Great Oak (3-4) will go up against Chaparral also in a Southwestern game.
