Basketball Recap: Christopher Davis' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Gateway over Oasis

Gateway was the 73-55 winner over Oasis when they last played one another back in November of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. The Gateway Eagles fell just short of the Oasis Sharks by a score of 57-55 on Tuesday. While the Eagles didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Sharks 17-11 in the first quarter.

Several Eagles players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Christopher Davis, who went 7 for 13 on his way to 16 points in addition to seven boards and five steals. Davis has been hot, having posted two or more steals the last five times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Andrew Leopold, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten rebounds.

Even though they lost, Gateway smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in nine consecutive contests dating back to last season.

Oasis' win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Maximus Martinez, who posted ten points and six rebounds. The dominant performance also gave Martinez a new career-high in steals (two). Another player making a difference was Zack Louzao, who went 6 of 15 on his way to 15 points and five boards.

Gateway's loss dropped their record down to 2-2. As for Oasis, the victory got them back to even at 3-3.

Gateway didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 72-41 defeat against Bishop Verot on the 5th. As for Oasis, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 51-39 win against North Fort Myers on the 5th.
