Joey Klein spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on six hits and racked up 11 Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Bre Ruggiero, who went 2-for-4 with two triples, two RBI, and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Hannah Goodson, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with one run.
Springfield hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in seven consecutive games.
Springfield is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-5 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.1 runs on average over those games. As for St. Vincent-St. Mary, they pushed their record up to 7-10 with the win, which was their third straight on the road.
Thursday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. St. Vincent-St. Mary hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .335. However, it's not like Springfield struggles in that department as they've averaged .352. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
