Basketball Recap: Dekaden Hall's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Sweeny over El Campo

Sweeny was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were four points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 45-41 heartbreaker at the hands of the El Campo Ricebirds. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Bulldogs this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 57-49 back in January.

Sweeny lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Dekaden Hall, who posted 11 points along with six rebounds and three steals. That's the most boards Hall has posted since back in November of 2024. Clinton King -Varner was another key player, almost dropping a double-double on 13 points and nine rebounds.

Sweeny's defeat dropped their record down to 3-22. As for El Campo, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 12-16.

Sweeny will head out on the road to take on La Marque at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in La Marque's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last eight matchups. As for El Campo, they will host Columbia at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
