Basketball Game Preview: Ledyard Colonels vs. Windham Whippets

Ledyard and Windham are an even 3-3 against one another since February of 2015, but not for long. The Ledyard Colonels are taking a road trip to square off against the Windham Whippets at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Ledyard is headed into the contest after thoroughly thrashing Killingly: they outscored them in every quarter. Ledyard enjoyed a cozy 48-29 victory over Killingly on Tuesday. Given the Colonels' advantage in MaxPreps' Connecticut basketball rankings (they are ranked ninth, while the Redmen are ranked 60th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, Windham waltzed into their game on Friday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Wolves 85-24. The Whippets have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won five matchups by 40 points or more this season.

Windham's win came from a few key players Ledyard will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Jaelize Rivera, who went 11 of 23 en route to 25 points and four steals. Another player making a difference was Aniya Jenkins, who went 9 for 17 on her way to 24 points.

Windham's record now sits at 8-1. As for Ledyard, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a nice bump to their 7-2 record this season.

Ledyard came up short against Windham in their previous meeting back in February of 2023, falling 57-45. Can Ledyard avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
