Corydon Central is on a four-game streak of home wins, while Providence is on a five-game streak of away wins (dating back to last season): one of those streaks is about to end. The Panthers will welcome the Pioneers at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams are strolling into their games after big wins in their previous games.
Corydon Central lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Lanesville, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Tuesday's matchup. The Panthers put the hurt on the Eagles with a sharp 12-2 win on Tuesday. The Panthers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four contests by seven runs or more this season.
Rease Jones and Ava Juhasz did most of the damage at the plate: Jones got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run and three runs, while Juhasz went a perfect 1-for-1 with four stolen bases, one run, and one double. Those four stolen bases gave Juhasz a new career-high. Paisley Teeter was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBI.
Corydon Central always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .556. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in eight consecutive games.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Providence). Everything went their way against Switzerland County on Tuesday as they made off with a 14-3 victory. The Pioneers not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since April 1st (when they won 13-1).
Lainey Weber (2028) was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 12 batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-5 with three RBI, two runs, and one double.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Presley Hegedus (2026), who got on base in three of her five plate appearances with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. Those stolen bases marked the first that she has snagged this season. Another player making a difference was Presley Flowers (2028), who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs.
Corydon Central's win bumped their record up to 8-3. As for Providence, their victory bumped their record up to 7-2.
