Basketball Recap: Roosevelt Finds Playoff Glory Versus Venus

With a playoff win on the line, Roosevelt rose to the challenge on Monday. They walked away with a 58-47 win over the Venus Bulldogs. Given the Mustangs' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 290th, while the Bulldogs are ranked 724th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Roosevelt to victory, but perhaps none more so than Devaje Jackson, who went 7-for-13 on his way to 22 points. Jackson is also on a roll when it comes to three-point shooting accuracy, as he's posted one of at least 40% in the last five games he's played. Isaiah Johnson was another key player, almost dropping a double-double with nine points and ten boards.

The victory made it two in a row for Roosevelt and bumps their season record up to 19-15. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 71.5 points over those games. As for Venus, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matchups, which has put a noticeable dent in their 14-18 record this season.

Looking ahead, Roosevelt will square off against Sanger at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Roosevelt is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 58.9 points per game this season. Venus does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
