Softball Recap: Independence Drops Season-High Score on Lawson

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Independence). Everything went their way against the Lawson Lightning on Saturday as Independence made off with a 17-0 win. The team's explosion at the plate also rewarded the Eagles with their most commanding win of the season.

Brylie Waechter made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Waechter was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.

In other batting news, Tori Fox and Reagan Maxon did most of the damage at the plate: Fox scored two runs while going 1-for-3, while Maxon scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-2. The dominant performance also gave Fox a new career-high in RBI (three). Hazel Dutra also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

The victory got Independence back to even at 5-5. As for Lawson, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-4.

Independence has already played their next game, a 14-4 win against Centennial on the 24th. As for Lawson, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Maplewood at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
