Baseball Recap: Fort Calhoun's Win on Friday Extends Winning Streak to Three

Fort Calhoun hadn't done well against Platte Valley recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Pioneers never let Platte Valley get on the board and left with an 8-0 victory. While the Pioneers didn't have the best season last year (they finished 9-12), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Presley Olberding was excellent, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-3. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in RBI (two). Chase Premer also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

The win was the third in a row for Fort Calhoun, bringing their record up to 6-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.0 runs on average over those games. As for Platte Valley, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-6.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Fort Calhoun will challenge Douglas County West at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The last four games the Falcon have played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one. As for Platte Valley, they will square off against Platteview at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
