Basketball Game Preview: Davenport Central Blue Devils vs. Pleasant Valley Spartans

Davenport Central is 1-9 against Pleasant Valley since February of 2020 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Davenport Central Blue Devils will head out to challenge the Pleasant Valley Spartans at 7:30 p.m. Davenport Central knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past seven contests -- so hopefully Pleasant Valley likes a good challenge.

If Davenport Central beats Pleasant Valley with 65 points on Friday, it's going to be the team's new lucky number: they've won their past two matches with that exact score. Davenport Central secured a 65-61 W over Clinton on Tuesday. Given the Blue Devils' advantage in MaxPreps' Iowa basketball rankings (they are ranked 32nd, while the River Kings are ranked 301st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, Pleasant Valley made easy work of Assumption on Tuesday and carried off a 65-39 win.

Davenport Central's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-2. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 64.3 points per game. As for Pleasant Valley, they now have a winning record of 7-6.

Davenport Central won a game that couldn't have been any closer in their previous meeting back in December of 2024, slipping by Pleasant Valley 55-54. The rematch might be a little tougher for Davenport Central since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
