Basketball Recap: Lamar Consolidated Comes Up Short

Lamar Consolidated lost against Victoria East back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Lamar Consolidated Mustangs were dealt a 56-26 loss at the hands of the Victoria East Titans. While losing is never fun, the Mustangs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1274th, while the Titans are ranked 513th).

Lamar Consolidated got a good chunk of their points from the dynamic duo of Aubrey Edwards and Sanaa Castillow, who each put up seven points. Praisegod Chinweuba held things down on the boards with ten rebounds.

Victoria East's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Kamryn Jackson, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 19 boards. What's more, Jackson also racked up three steals, the most she's had since back in December of 2024. Avery Valentine was another key player, going 6 for 15 en route to 17 points.

Lamar Consolidated has been struggling recently as they've lost 12 of their last 13 matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-24 record this season. Their recent woes sure aren't a result of their performance when it comes to three-point shooting accuracy: their three-point shooting accuracy was 38% in those games and 12.8% outside of them. As for Victoria East, their win bumped their record up to 17-14.

Lamar Consolidated wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 45-42 defeat against Victoria West on the 4th. Victoria East has also already played their next game (against Fort Bend Kempner), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
