Baseball Recap: Mount Union Snags Fifth Win in Last Six Games

Mount Union lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Tussey Mountain, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Thursday's match. The Trojans' pitcher stepped up to hand the Titans an 8-0 shutout on Thursday. Considering the Trojans have won five games by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

The result came thanks to Davin Yocum's shutout, as he gave up just four hits. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Dylan Shawver, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last five games he's played. Julian Weirich was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.

Mount Union is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-2 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Tussey Mountain, their loss was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 3-4.

Looking ahead, Mount Union will head out to face off against Williamsburg at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. The Blue Pirates have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 8.17 runs per game on average), something the Trojans will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Tussey Mountain, they will host Northern Bedford County at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The last three games the Panthers have played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
