Basketball Game Preview: Trinity Tigers vs. New Waverly Bulldogs

Trinity is 2-8 against New Waverly since February of 2020 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Trinity Tigers will head out to square off against the New Waverly Bulldogs at 6:30 p.m. Trinity will be strutting in after a win while New Waverly will be coming in after a loss.

Trinity will bounce into Friday's match after beating Coldspring-Oakhurst, who they had gone 2-7 against in their nine prior meetings. Trinity managed a 42-37 victory over Coldspring-Oakhurst on Tuesday. The 42-point effort marked the Tigers' lowest-scoring contest of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.

Meanwhile, New Waverly was beaten by Onalaska 78-33 on Tuesday. While losing is never fun, the Bulldogs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1039th, while the Wildcats are ranked 411th).

New Waverly's defeat dropped their record down to 10-16. As for Trinity, with the win, they broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 17-9.

Trinity was able to grind out a solid victory over New Waverly in their previous meeting two weeks ago, winning 55-43. The rematch might be a little tougher for Trinity since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
