Basketball Game Preview: Portsmouth West Senators vs. Wheelersburg Pirates

The Portsmouth West Senators will head out on the road to square off against the Wheelersburg Pirates on Thursday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Having struggled with four defeats in a row, Portsmouth West turned things around against South Webster on Monday. They strolled past the Jeeps with points to spare, taking the game 45-26. Given the Senators' advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 289th, while the Jeeps are ranked 691st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, Wheelersburg came tearing into Monday's contest with seven straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 16.1 points) and they left with even more momentum. They came out on top against the Falcons by a score of 59-50.

Wheelersburg pushed their record up to 18-2 with the win, which was their eighth straight on the road. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 53.3 points per game. As for Portsmouth West, their victory bumped their record up to 12-8.

Portsmouth West lost to Wheelersburg on the road by a decisive 42-27 margin in their previous meeting back in January. Can Portsmouth West avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
